Dorm Death Detective storyline:
A brilliant man and a brilliant misanthrope make a pernicious pair. Neither Gill nor Will considered himself to have a close friend; not until they meet each other. But each, despite their similarities, had a disparate social order.
Gill wanted desperately to fit in. He masked his uniqueness for the sake of social harmony, but despite his best efforts he always felt out of place - and he was.
Will, conversely, chose to rebuff the distaste of others for him by reciprocal hostility. He attributed others' curt attitudes toward him as a manifestation of their own inferiority. He knew them better than they knew themselves, so their actions meant nothing to him.
In these perversely auspicious conditions, it was only a matter of time until disaster. And soon, a cruel plan emerged - the product of the two detached minds. In their cynical synergy, the duo laid out the disturbing sequence of events that they would seed, which would culminate in the murder. Will basked in self-delight with this demonstration of his superiority and influence. And Gill, anxious to maintain his friend's acceptance, executed the fiendish scheme with suppressed morality.
Over time, the evolving plan settled: Diane would die, and Merv would fry, framed for her murder. Will began by fostering a relationship between Merv and Diane. To do this,
he offered to help them study
for a class they had together but then
didn't come
.
The scheme worked
. Next, he began
courting Kell
. This was to provide himself with an alibi, but he had always harbored a secret interest in the girl anyway. His efforts again paid off. With the groundwork laid for the evil plan, Will waited for the perfect time to strike, with Gill standing by to commit the crime. That time came on the
seventh
, when
Kell invited Will to her rehearsal
. This would give Will his alibi. And he would provide Gill's alibi by using the
murder's card
to enter the lab in the physics building, thereby making it appear
as though Gill hadn't been at the murder scene
. But, he was at the scene, implementing his portion of the plan.
Gill drugged an old bottle of vodka. He then, feigning friendship, offered the bottle to his victims. They readily accepted it, and
the trio each had a glass
. But, Gill had filled his with water ahead of time. After a few minutes of awkward company, Gill returned to his room, listening through the open door for the drug to take effect. This was somewhat difficult because
Lou was blasting music, as usual
. But this was an anticipated part of the plan, precluding the possibility that he would hear anything. Finally, with
the pipe from his broken radiator
in his hand, Gill executed the final step.
